[ 1 ] Affordable Gyms in the Heartlands

There is an increase in the number of gyms in the Heartlands. Customers frequent these gyms because their membership and walk-in prices are reasonable. Furthermore, these gyms are well-equipped and located at close proximity from their homes.

Trainers can design personalized workouts according to the customers’ needs when they sign up for a package. With the Health Promotion Board (HPB) encouraging regular exercise, more people realize the importance of working out. In a clean and comfortable environment, you can exercise, get to know more friends and enjoy your time!

In this following video, you will find out more about a gym located in Tampines.

[ 3 ] Getting the Story

The Heartland News team, consisting of Audrey, Grace, Daryl, Justyn and I, conducted our weekly editorial meeting on Friday, May 8 to brainstorm on our next headline.

After some intensive discussions and research, we finally decided upon the topic of “Gyms in the heartlands of Singapore”. Following that, was a series of hectic planning, preparing and writing the script, liaising with the owner of the gym and generating the film schedule.

On Wednesday, May 13, we set off to our filming location: Tampines North Community Centre. We started working right away, filming the scenes as planned.

However there were a couple of setbacks, such as finding the right angle to film and the right person to interview. “We wanted to interview a lady who was working out at the gym, but she could not receive any public interview,” Justyn recalled.

Still, the filming was a successful one.

Reflecting on the day and meeting the regulars at the gym, we felt that the gym is not merely a place to burn off calories, but it is also a place where close friendships are formed.

[ 4 ] Are You Working-out Right?

Many of us may not have the liberty of engaging a professional trainer. Be it body-building or burning off excess calories, one should bear in mind some safety tips to prevent injury.

Before and after any workouts, it is important to stretch properly to decrease the risk of muscle injury. Also, long moderate workouts tend to be more effective as compared to short intense ones.

Treadmills and stair-steppers usually come with handrails. However, leaning on the handrails are highly discouraged as this strains your wrists and back.

Next, the jerking action that seems to make lifting weights easier actually puts your muscles at risk of being injured. Concentrate fully on flexing and relaxing your muscles as you lift the weights. Always start from lighter weights before progressing to heavier ones.

Lastly, should you be unfamiliar with any gym equipment, do not hesitate to seek help from the professionals.
